I have not really paid much attention to this method of link building
yet, but have now decided to give it a try. If you look around at
Webmaster Forums you’ll find people looking for a sponsor of their
templates. Templates can be for directories or blogs (in particular
WordPress Blogs). These fine folks design and build templates for the
software of choice and release it for free. Under the license terms the
user of such a template has to leave the footer links intact. By getting
sponsors for their templates these designers actually make money. If
you are a good designer it might take you an hour or two to develop a
nice looking template. You sell 2 sponsored links for somewhere between
$35 and $100. Depending on where you live this will carry you quite a
while. From a sponsor point of view this means if the template is
promoted well, you get a lot of back links from other blogs. Imagine a
free template with your link in it used 100 times – this can be
significant if those blogs grow in popularity and Google Page Rank. By
the time you read this I most likely secured the first template
sponsorship (I am writing this posting in advance and let WordPress
publish it automatically at a time I specified before). So, we will see
how this turns out. Don’t tell anyone, but the real beauty of this “seo
trick” is not to concentrate on the public available sponsorships you
find in forums, but to contact designers and work with them directly.
Bypass the middleman, bypass the competition.
In general this seems to be an underdeveloped market with high potential. If used in a mix of normal link building and SEO it can be a great tool to make your blog or website more popular. With Google and other search engines becoming more difficult to deal with from a webmaster standpoint you have to become more creative if you want to succeed. White Hat SEO is fine, but if you are too conservative with your approach things are moving very slow. That has been my biggest mistake. Don’t get me wrong – it’s not a bad way, but it is slow. Being a little more aggressive does not mean that you have to leave the white hat seo arena though. It just means you have to re-assess how you do stuff and decide to take a different approach that will get you going faster. But with everything that you do beyond what the search engines want you to do, you increase the risk of landing in supplemental hell or in the Google Sandbox. Therefore it is always good to diversify.

principle: if you provide quality, you don’t need to pay to be heard. It
unites bloggers who are interested in connecting to other bloggers,

high-quality articles on their blogs.
Take a look at some example pages for some of the web’s most trusted
sources and gain insight into their SEO tactics. Keyword rankings,
backlink analyses and an assortment of other search metrics are
available for sites that lead the way in search engine visibility.
You might be looking for tips and how can you optimize your blog for the search engines friendliness. In this article we are going to present some of the most practical tips that would be helpful for you in a long run.
· Unique interesting and original content
If you have observed some of the most popular blogs on the Internet, then you would notice some similarity between them. The best blogs have one thing in common and that is an interesting content. Reason behind the success of most of the blogs is that those bloggers are genuinely interested in the topic on which they write. At the same time, they also have a first rate knowledge about the content that is being written on the blog.
Some of them might not be grammatically correct but because they are written from heart it reaches hearts and gets connected. In the world of internet, sharing plays a very important role in making blogs popular. If you are looking for a specific type of content on the internet and you come across it, you would naturally like to share it. As your friend circle is going to be more or less like you and like minded, the chances are that they too are going to like your content and they are going to share it and forward it further. In this way, content get circulated and promoted naturally.
· Keyword density and placement of keywords
There is lots of buzz about keyboards and their role in Search Engine Optimization. Although this is a debatable issue, yet, practically, we can understand that whenever we need to search for or certain type of content, we refer to a search engine like Google and type certain words in it. These words are called ‘keywords’ and the result displayed by Google do include these words. Therefore, we can understand that keywords do play a role in Search Engine Optimization.
However, the keyword density and other technicalities would make your natural content fake, artificial and inappropriate. Therefore, the advice regarding keyword would be to use the essential keywords in the titles, main headings and if they look natural, then also in the subheadings. You do not have to worry too much about the keyword density; you just need to ensure that you write a content that is suitable and appropriate. The rest would be done by itself.
· Using external authority links
Another important part of Search Engine Optimization is the links associated with your site. There is no concrete evidence about it, yet, many SEO experts do profess using reputed or authority links like Google, Wikipedia, YouTube etc. on their web page. This is believed to enhance the repetition of the page which indirectly helps in it standings and positions in the search engines. Again, there is no concrete evidence for it, yet there is no harm doing it either, provided that they comes naturally in your content.
· Alternate image tag
This is probably the least talked about or ignored technical aspects of Search Engine Optimization. Many people forgets to tag the images of the blog posts. If you go to Google and search in the images section, the images are search from the keywords that you use for them. These keywords are nothing but the alternate image tags, that were put by you in images uploading during a blog post. So do tag all of your images in future and if possible, try to tag the ones that you have missed out as well!

Trend #2 Link Building!

Also, though, it is quite important to initially create the linkable

thumb rule for content
marketing is that used to be the half of the resources must be also

marketing of assets. In the year 2019, we believe that this
percentage must be weighted in favor of creating strategic content,
with ratios such as 70/30, or 80/20.
the question is how will you know that what is the right percentage
for you? You also need to analyze how much you have developed the
relationships with the relevant influencers to the date. Though that
kind of the work is not “done,” when you are pretty far, you
might be able to spend about 80 percent of the content marketing and
link building time for creating linkable content assets. When you
have a long way to go in the development of relationship, then the
ratio could be 70/30—or possibly 60/40 till you solidify the

you market them well, you will be able to notice that a small
percentage of the inbound links will go to home page. Rather, they

and Quality Online Reviews
in old days, it may also have felt that you just required
facilitating regular supply of the Google Reviews and then you will
be good to go. But the fact is, you need to go further. Reason is
also simple, as Google becomes much sophisticated; they look for
signals of real-world that indicate that customers appreciate the
companies, thereby making the gimmicks to be less successful.

Before I get into the Google panda stuff, I wanna ask you something….ever hear the expression “Content is King” before?
I’m willing to bet an In-N-Out double cheeseburger with animal style
fries that you have (yes, I am pretty hungry as I write this…)
But do you know what that really means?
Cause I was kind of confused when I first heard this somewhat overused IM axiom.
So what actually qualifies as good content?
Revealing a secret that most people don’t know about? Nope.
Over-delivering like heck? Nope.
Formatting everything so it’s super organized and really actionable? Nope.
Creating good content, or “killer content” as I like to call it is simply…
Giving Your VisitorExactly What They Want!
This is the difference between creating stuff that people love
reading and will share with their buddies… versus… pouring hours of your
time into creating content that quietly sits there while tumbleweeds
And ultimately, the difference between pulling in loads of cash versus wasting your time… to put it bluntly.
Before I get into easiest way to read your audience’s mind and give
them what they want, I want to share a quick example of why good content
is absolutely crucial for any internet marketer nowadays.
So a few years back, you could have a site filled with informational
articles on health insurance that you bought from an article writing
service and rank on the first page of Google. Just add adsense and you’d
make a killing (the insurance niche has a very high Adsense payout).
But Google got smarter.
They know (as you and I know) that if someone is searching for the
term “health insurance”, they couldn’t CARE LESS about reading a 500
world article on the benefits of health insurance.
They want to BUY health insurance online. Or at least review different plans before making a decision.
So now, in order to rank for a term like “health insurance” you need
to be an actual service provider, or can direct people to one, because
that’s what visitors want. Not a B.S. 500 word article. I’m sure you’ve
felt the frustration of really wanting to find something online, but
only landing on crap websites.
Yes, Google’s AI human-learning thingamajig is smart enough to know
when you’re giving good content and crap content (one indicator of this
is your website’s bounce rate, but there are many others).
And by the way, Google is not done. It’s constantly changing. There were actually several Google Panda updates in 2018 and there will be more in 2019.
Panda Updates Can LiterallyRuin Your Online Business Overnight!
So how do we safeguard against this?
Simple: Give visitors what they want aka provide killer content.
Remember that marketing is simply giving people exactly what they want.
So let’s talk about a cool little tactic you can use to find out what your website visitors truly want.
No, it’s not surveying them, although that works too.
It’s actually pretty ninja. I call it, “reading your visitor’s mind”
Here’s the tactic:
You’re going to create a contact form, disguised as a search engine
box. So when your visitors type in a question they want answers to,
you’ll receive that exact query as an email. Review these emails an
you’ll know exactly what type of content to create!
This is golden if you don’t know much about your niche.
One of my websites is in the pregnancy niche. Believe it or not, I’m
not an expectant mother and don’t know much about pregnancy.
…despite what you may think after seeing my post-holiday dinner belly…
So in order to find out what expectant mothers wanted to know
concerning their HCG levels during pregnancy, I set up this little form:
That’s just a picture with a simple contact form underneath. I use the plugin, Contact Form 7.
I let this run for about a week. And received hundreds of emails with
what people were typing in. Not surprisingly, most people were asking
the same questions. And I knew I needed to give the answers to these
questions somewhere on my site… to give my visitors exactly what they’re looking for, but also to prove to Google that I deserve the top ranking for the keyword (currently 6th, but just wait a few weeks).
Whatever I create will be considered “great content” because it’s exactly what the visitors are looking for!
Do not make the mistake of merely guessing your audience wants.
Use this or some other research method to find out for sure. And no your picture doesn’t have to be as corny as mine
Try this out and let me know how it works!
PS- what kind of sorry excuse for a marketer would I be if I didn’t ask you guys what type of stuff you want me to write about!
Leave a reply in the comments below and let me know things
you’re struggling with, topics you want to know more about, or anything
you want to see on this blog.
If you know what a backlink is, you probably know about the mean ol’
Panda that’s been poking its head out every so often and burying
unfortunate websites deep down underground.
This is the traffic stats for one of my sites around the very FIRST Google Panda update (then known as the “Farmer” update):
This was my reaction:
Another one has bitten the dust…
Since late February, there have been a lot of chatter on the web
about how to Panda proof your site… create better content, remove
duplicate content, diversify your backlinks, use social media, yada yada
And the reasoning all make sense… but it’s still all speculation.
I mean, think about it- no one can predict Google’s next move.
But there’s one simple way to shield your website from Panda that doesn’t get talked about a lot…
Get Other Sources of Traffic Besides Search Engine Traffic!
Don’t put all your eggs in one basket…
Sounds like common sense right?
A lot of passive-income enthusiasts (myself included) get sooooo
focused on organic search traffic that we forget about other ways to
attract visitors to our site.
Rankings and number of backlinks mean nothing by themselves.
We only care about how many targeted visitors we can drive to our site.
And course, free traffic is the best.
Here’s what it’s all about:
#1 The High Octane Viral Youtube Copycat Method (15 minutes)
(LOL… just wanted to see how cool I could make this sound…)
I got the idea for this from my buddy David. He told me about this
cool way to get traffic with Youtube. I tweaked this a little bit and
saw great results.
My traffic shot up from less than 20 unique visitors per day to just under 900 unique visitors per day…
(By the way I’m using Clicky analytics…. Much better than Google Analytics to track your traffic stats)
So here’s a domain I bought on November 5th
I threw up a couple of unique articles and saw 5-20 visitors a day on average for 2 weeks.
I left it alone until November 18th, when I decided
to test out David’s little traffic trick. It took me a total of 15
minutes and EXPLODED my traffic. It took 2 days before I remembered that
I can actually make money from this traffic with ads (I’m a bit slow
So I added my Adsense code and viola…
(I know its kinda tacky to be posting earnings and everything… I just want you to understand how powerful this is)
So it made $40 in 10 days. That’s on track for over $100 a month!
If I were to list this site on Flippa, I could sell it for $800-$1200!
Remember, this is site is only 2 weeks old!
So here’s the what you do to get his type of traffic in 15 minutes:
Step 1. Go Youtube and find a video related to your keyword. The more interesting and viral, the better. If you can’t find one, create one with Animoto. Animoto is a piece of cake.
Step 2. Using a video editor, split the video right before the most interesting part. Upload the first part to YouTube, give it a super attention-grabbing title that viewers cannot resist clicking on… and add (part 1 of 2) at the end.
If your copywriting skills aren’t up to par, don’t worry. Study some National Enquirer headlines(which happens to be the most read subscription in the WORLD for a reason).
Step 3. In your video description, link to your
website and have a call to action: “http://www.mydomain.com/page.html
< Click here to see part 2″
Step 4. On your website, embed part 2 of the video. And if you want to take a step further:
Below the video on your website, add a free offer (lead magnet) that
visitors might be interested in and lock it with a tool called “Like Locker Pro“. That way, visitors have to “like” your page (which shares it in their FB newsfeed) in order to get their free stuff.
Like This Post To Download Like Locker Pro!
(There’s a free tool that does something similar by Glen Allsopp of
Viper Chill . I can’t think of the name right now, but when it comes,
I’ll post it)
So that gave another bump in traffic because I was getting referrals from Facebook too.
Step 5. Ready for the sneaky part?
Social bookmark your Youtube video on Digg and use Microworkers to get ~90 Diggs to the video (dirt cheap to do). Again, use good copywriting when creating your bookmark. And feel free to do the same with other SB sites like Reddit.
Next, use a service called Vagex to increase your original video’s view count. You get 50 views for free and afterwards it’s like a dollar for 1000 views. I only used 1050.
Your Youtube video will get quickly ranked which in turn drove a ton of traffic to your money site.
The key to making this work beautifully is a really enticing video
and good copywriting to get people curious. Another great place to get
intriguing headline structures is to look at the top news stories at
#2 *Intelligent* Blog Commenting
You’re probably thinking “Blog commenting, wtf? Aren’t those just spammy backlinks?”
Yes, if you’re dropping your anchor text in
the name field and posting nonsense like “I really enjoyed reading this
post! Great job! Yay!”
But if you do it the RIGHT way (white hat), you can and get some nice traffic from a targeted audience.
Here’s the stats for one of my micro niche sites for the last 14 days:
Of the 419 people that came to my site via link, 408 were from a single blog comment link from a related blog in my niche!
Remember that this is a micro niche site,
meaning that I’m supposed to get the majority of my traffic through the
exact match long-tail search phrase (I’m even ranked in the top 5!).
I only got 41 visits from that keyword in 14 days…
That single blog comment-which took 30 seconds- yielded 900% better results than 3 weeks of manual article submissions, forum comments, press releases, backlink packages, and other tedious SEO methods.
So now you’re probably wondering how do you get these blog comment backlinks to…
1. stick and
2. send you actual visitors?
It’s easy as ABC.
First things first, search for the top blogs in your niche. Here’s a tool to help ya out!
Use a NAME in the name field, not your
anchor text. And in your reply, link to your website with a naked link. A
naked link is just your url, straight up. (http://www.yoursite.com)
Your comment should relate your site to the
blog post. It helps if you read the post and get an idea of what it’s
about. Here’s 2 templates that will get high approval rates
“Hey, thanks for the info… I was
reading on http://www.yoursitehere.com and saw that [relevant piece of
info]… what do you think about that?”
“@(another commenter’s name): [make a comment about their post, referring back to your site]
So if someone named Nick commented before
you and asked a question, your reply should be, “@Nick, I was wondering
the same thing. http://www. says that blah blah blah…”
Sneeeeeeaky stuff eh?
That’s about it for today… hope you learned something!
And if you’re not subscribed to my email
list yet, you can join here for updates and other goodies (don’t laugh, I
know it’s ghetto):
In terms of updates and innovation, SEO is one of the leaders on the
web. Through regular algorithm changes, Google makes SEO a much more
rewarding experience for those who own blogs and websites, and makes
it much easier to deal with others who practice Black Hat SEO
techniques. What it all means is that the SEO world was a very
different one just a few years ago.
Let us look at
the different ways in which SEO has been transformed during the past
It was not so
long ago when spammy content and keyword stuffing dominated the SEO
world. There wasn’t much Google could do about it initially but it
all changed with the introduction of the Panda updates. They allowed
the search engine to dissuade people from keyword stuffing and gave
way to a more meaningful and quality content.
penalty on keyword stuffing, Panda made the Internet a better place
for all. It put emphasis on content quality over content quantity
which led to a better user experience and rewarded the webmasters who
paid more attention on the quality of their content. SEO was
transformed into a quality content game and those who could produce
the best pieces of writing became those who reaped the most benefits.
When 5 years ago
the Pigeon update was first introduced, it completely changed the way
in which local searches were conducted. What the update basically did
is transfer authority from bad to well-optimized sites for local
No more link
Google no longer
tolerates the use of links for manipulating search results. The
reason for this is that link building, which was so strong some years
ago, is now viewed as yet another Black Hat SEO technique. What link
building was basically reduced to was natural link attraction and
guest posting, making the last two the most viable options to
increase your site’s authority.
One of the key
points in Google’s innovation was the mobile first approach. The
search engine basically enforced the site optimization for mobile
devices. It now rewards those who have mobile-friendly websites at
the expense of the rest.
torrent of updates
The recent years have seen Google releasing a “river” of Penguin,
Panda and Hummingbird updates. All those attracted great attention
from optimizers as they were worried about how and to what extend
these updates will affect their sites. Even a small update could
affect a website or even potentially break one. It led to a degree of
paranoia among site optimizers, which is not necessary a bad thing.
For one, everyone is not paying more attention on site optimization.
Google has grown
so much during the last few years that it is nearly unrecognizable
from what it once was. In my opinion all these changes were for the
good. They weren’t perfect but nonetheless have created a solid
base on which more improvements could be introduced.
When you build a web page there are several things to juggle, the code, where the page fits in the sitemap, how you’re going to get traffic to it and how you’re going to get that traffic to convert to sales after visiting your page. Here I’ll go over 5 of the top things to keep in mind for web pages to increase conversions.
Things to consider when designing a web page.
1. Be Clear
If visitors don’t know what the page is about, or can’t find the links to make a purchase or contact you, then they won’t. Remember most people are using the internet to make their lives easier, if you start to complicate things for them, they’ll go somewhere else. That won’t help your conversion rate.
Each page should be divided into clear sections, the main navigation should be in one area, the text and related pictures and diagrams in another. Use headlines to break up sections of text so people can quickly scan the page and know where to find the exact information they are looking for.
2. Tell Them What To Do
If you want people to sign up for your newsletter, tell them. If you want them to buy something, give them a clearly labeled button to push to make a purchase. This doesn’t mean that the call to action has to dominate the page, it just means it needs to be easy to find. Ideally you would employ both a text link and a graphic button on the page. I would also suggest that you place your call to action both above and below the fold of the page. As any sales person will tell you, calls to actions make conversions.
3. Make the text easy to read
The text on your page needs to be easy to read, that means that the main bodies of text will be written in a font that is easy to read, like Verdana or Times. Save the decorative fonts for short headlines. You will also want to make sure that the font color stands out against the background color, you won’t be using blue text on a green background.
4. Keep Content Relevant
Don’t be like your old aunt Betty and tell wandering stories and address fifteen different topics when you started out trying to explain one thing. If you have a page on Bass Fishing, don’t spend more than a sentence on outboard boat motors. Stay on topic. If you decide that you really want to go into boat motors, create another page and link to it from your bass fishing page. The people who clicked the link to get to your page did so expecting the information promised, not something else. If they feel that the information isn’t relevant to their interest they will leave.
5. Limit the number of Steps
Remember that the idea is to help people get to where you want them to be. Getting there should be simple, which means it should take as few steps as possible. Ideally a person should be able to get from any page on your site to any other page in four steps or less. The contact page and purchase page should take fewer steps. Ideally these two key pages should be reachable in one click.
There are two ways to get a site to the top page of google. In the SEO world they are loosely called black hat and white hat. There are pros and cons to each method, which I will outline briefly here.
White Hat uses the guidelines provided by the search engines to get a site to rate well. The three major search engines, google, bing and yahoo, each have libraries dedicated to teaching webmasters how to get their sites to rank well and include warnings on what the search engine considers to be cheating. Their specific considerations vary but essentially they all say the same thing, make your site the kind of site that users will like to visit and link to from their own sites. The way the search engine determines how well the site is made, is by looking at the frequency and placement of keywords and the number and value of links that point to any given page within a site. So white hat SEO specialists create user friendly content on the web site but spend most of their time getting other web site owners to link to key pages on the sites they manage.
The pros to this approach are:
Once you hit page one, you stay at page one
Even when the search engines change their algorithm, your ranking won’t change drastically
Nobody can report you for cheating
Competitors will have a very hard time un-seating you
The cons to this approach are:
It takes a little longer to reach number one (actual time depending on the industry and region)
Black hat uses loopholes and short comings in the search engines algorithm to climb to the top page. Black Hat SEO specialists use tools like link farms to fool the search engines into thinking that there are several hundred links pointing to a site. They also use program generated text to fill pages text with keyword rich filler. Many times they will create one or two user friendly pages to mask the search engine friendly pages so that visitors to the site aren’t confused by what they are seeing.
The pros to this approach are:
Fast climb to page one
Usually inexpensive monthly fee without contracts
The cons to this approach are:
Each time the search engines close a loophole hundreds of black hat sites drop or completely disappear from their rankings
Competitors who suspect cheating can report sites to search engines for investigation
Sites found to be engaged in “cheating” can be suspended or banned from search engines
It is very rare that any SEO specialist falls entirely into one camp or the other, it’s more of a continuum than two camps. It’s important to understand where your SEO specialist falls on the spectrum because of the amount of risk inherent in each technique. Silver Lizard Design is pretty heavy on the White hat side of the spectrum. Contact us to get more information on how we can help you.
Sometimes in SEO we hear about keyword density and we’re given complex formulas to come up with the optimum density. In reality, that isn’t as effective as keyword placement. Where you use your keywords contributes more to your SEO endeavors than how often you use them. There are eight places to use your keywords to get the most out them. Here they are, in no particular order.
Use keywords in the Title
This is arguably the most important place to use your keywords. Use the page’s keyword in the title at least once. For those who are new to web design, the title is the text you see at the top of your browser. The title should be between 7-12 words long. Besides your keyword, use Latent Semantic Content, or related words. For example, if your keyword is “Fishing Lures” using words like “tackle”, “bait”, or “fishing line” all help support the primary keyword by giving it context.
Use keywords in the H1, H2, and H3
The headlines carry a lot of weight, both with viewers and search engines. Make sure that anytime you use a headline, that you include your keyword. Keep headlines short, take a hint from newspapers here. Make sure that the headline also provides insight into the paragraph that follows.
Use the keyword in bold within the body text
Search engines can easily see which words are bold, just like readers. Make sure that your keyword is used in bold, or strong, typeface at least once on the page.
Use keywords in the URL
When naming your pages, avoid names like “page2.html” instead use keyword rich names like “fishing-Lures.html”. This makes it even more clear what the page is about, and will make it easier for people to directly navigate to the page later. Due to the way search engines process URLs, it is better to use “-” to separate words than using “_” or even running the words together.
Use keywords in the Description META tag
This is one tip that does not help with search engines but will help get people to click on your site in the search results. The description you provide is the one that Google or Bing will use to describe your page in their search results. If the description is clear, appealing and seems to address what the person was searching for, they are more likely to click on the link that takes them to your site.
In the file name of images
Image search results are showing great power in driving traffic to sites, make sure you are capitalizing on this by optimizing your images. Search engine bots can’t see your images, so they rely on other factors to let them know what the image portrays. Naming your file something like “fishing-lures.jpg” is better than using your camera’s default image naming process.
Use keywords in the Image Alt Description
Again this is a place to tell the search engine what that image is a picture of. Don’t go too long here, just get describe the image in 5-7 words, making sure to include your keyword.
Use keywords in the anchor text of links pointing to the page
Anchor text is the text a user would click on to get to your page. Using text like “Click Here” is not effective at all. Instead use text that describes the page’s content, by including the pages keywords in the anchor. WARNING: Don’t use the current page’s keywords in anchor text that leads to another page, use that page’s keywords.
So, as you can see, keyword placement isn’t that hard. It can become tedious when you have several pages to redo. but it will help you get your site optimized not only for increased traffic, but for increased sales!

Backlinks are an important piece in modern day search engine optimization (SEO).
Bloggers and webmasters who fail to understand the value of backlinks and the value it provides remain in a perpetual state of oblivion. No successful website was or can ever be built without optimal usage of backlinks. This article examines what a backlink is and how to go about realizing its full potential.
What Are Backlinks?
A backlink is a web link pointing to a page or website under reference. Backlink is a digital age term created by combining ‘back’ and ‘link’. So, in simple words it’s a link pointing back to a website under discussion. As you might guess from a technical standpoint a ‘backlink’ is still a link.
Once upon a time when search engines were not smarter than humans backlinks were even more important than they are now. The number of backlinks pointing to a website was considered as a metric of how many people/institutions consider a particular page as important. The more the number of backlinks, the higher was the deemed value of a page. The smart bloggers and webmasters started using this flaw to their advantage by creating ‘artificial backlinks‘. An artificial backlink, as opposed to organic backlink, is one that is created through some sort of coercion.
As the evolutionary war between search engines and content producers progressed the search engines got smart enough to figure out an artificial/coerced/fake backlink. Nowadays the search engines impose severe penalties on fake backlinks. For example, if you are blogging about politics it will be a terrible idea to have your backlink on a programming blog. After all, reasons Google, why should programming and politics mix? Therefore, a site with lots of artificial backlinks is automatically demoted in the rankings, defeating the purpose of the whole artificial link creation exercise. In a nutshell, in today’s world a blogger trying to create artificial backlinks is nothing short of suicidal.
Some search engines have now taken this evolutionary race to next level by cataloging all websites that are known to indulge in backlink malpractices. You would be doomed if your website were to figure on one of these websites.
Decoding SEO Jargon: Must Know Terms
When a website A contains a link to another website B, A is said to pass ‘link juice’ to B. In the eyes of Google, the great, this is akin to A sharing its goodwill with B. Therefore, if website A is a hot favorite of the search engine, the ratings of B rises as well.
Many a times a webpage contains links to another website but the author doesn’t want to pass on the link juice. This is achieved by embedding the no-follow tag (rel=”no-follow”) in the html code of the link.
With the rapid rise of social media, a new kind of implicit no-follow link has emerged. This is a backlink which does not have the code rel=”no-follow” in the html source but still search engines don’t consider it relevant for ranking pages. A nice example of this kind of implicit no-follow links is the links to a website from its Facebook page or its Twitter handle. Whereas search engines attach a lot of value to people sharing the links on your social media page, the links on the page by themselves don’t count. So, if nobody is sharing your links they are as bad as dead.
A do-follow link is a ‘regular’ link that passes link juice. There are no special tags there. A modern day webmaster should use do-follow links very very judiciously.
Linked Root Domain Count
Linked Root Domain Count is a count of unique websites as opposed to unique webpages backlinking to another website. If a website A has 100 pages backlinking to website B, A will still count as 1 linked root domain.
A link to some other location (page or section of a page) within the same website is called an internal link. Internal links help reduce the bounce rate and increase the time visitors spend on a website.
Anchor text is the phrase that is used for a link. It is primarily used for keyword targeting. If there are a large number of backlinks to a particular page with a particular keyword, the backlinked page will rank better for that particular keyword.
Managing Your Backlinks
Managing your backlinks continues to be one of the main cornerstones of modern day SEO strategy. Here are five most important points about backlink management –
Never try to artificially create backlinks. This is especially true for backlinks created on websites in unrelated area.
Try to create high-quality content that meets real needs of real people. This will help you create organic traffic and increase your traffic manifold.
If you are just starting out with your blog or site and you are not hosting on Google, it’s all the more important for you to get high quality organic backlinks. These backlinks inform search engines that a new kid has arrived on the blog. New websites that fail to generate backlinks may take up to a month to get discovered by Google. This discovery is faster if you are hosting your website on a Google platform such as Blogger (Blgospot, to be more precise).
If you are an eCommerce store or shop you should focus harder on backlinks. In an eCommerce setting typically many vendors are selling the same product. Moreover, product descriptions, prices and reviews also tend to be similar, if not identical. So, as far as a search engine is concerned it’s the same content that is repeated on multiple eCommerce stores. The point of difference than boils down to backlinks. An eCommerce store having high quality backlinks will definitely fare better (at least in terms of traffic) than the competitors.
In modern day SEO the quantity of backlinks is far less important than the quality. A single high quality backlink can be a thousand times better than thousand low quality backlinks. In fact, if the backlinks are of real poor quality they can damage the reputation of your website, sometimes irreparably. So focus on high quality backlinks rather than lots of backlinks.
Generating High Quality Backlinks
A lot of webmasters constantly keep asking – How do I get high quality backlinks for my blog or website?
Here are five proven ways of generating backlinks for your websites –
Produce quality content that solves real problems of real people
Participate in discussion forums or on Q & A websites related to your domain
Harness the power of social media
Think beyond Google
(Don’t) Submit your URLs to web directories
1. Produce quality content
This is the most important aspect of organic backlink building. As search engines continue to evolve and grow more intelligent, the importance of quality content will keep growing. It’s quite conceivable that eventually nothing else will matter in backlink building except high quality content.
Since high quality content is the backbone of all successful online ventures, we will spend some more trying to define it. High quality content doesn’t necessarily that it’s scholarly content. Nor does it mean that the content you post be breakthrough inventions. Before preparing and posting content take a moment to think about your potential audience. What do they need, what format suits them best and what would impress them enough to come back to your website again.
2. Participate in discussion forums and on Q & A websites
Posting useful backlinks to your websites in a relevant context is perhaps the only other way apart from quality content to gain powerful backlinks. This methodology of creating backlinks relies on posting links to your webpages in response to questions posted by other users. Note that modern day Q & A websites such as Quora.com & StackOverflow.com are smart enough to distinguish good responses from bad ones. Therefore, don’t even think about spamming. To get a long lasting powerful backlink your link must be a coherent part of response that answers a query.
3. Harness the power of social media
With most users on internet joining the social media bandwagon, the search engines have changed their algorithms to attach more weight-age to social media. Links on your social media homepage don’t count as backlinks, but if they go viral search engines start attaching a lot of value to those backlinks. Also note that not all social media are equal. Facebook & Twitter are first among equals. Many researchers believe that Twitter is more future-proof. Therefore, if you just enough resources to manage one social medium, make it Twitter. Some research points to a hypothesis that Facebook is more effective in generating traffic than Twitter. Some of other popular social media that you can consider include Tumblr, Google+, Pinterest, Instagram.
4. Think beyond Google
Google is the dominant search engine. It has been so for as long memory serves us and is likely to remain the dominant force for a long time in future. Other search engines are also-rans and fail to pose any major challenge to Google. Nevertheless, 2 to 3 % of search engine traffic comes from these search engines such as Bing. If you are the David facing Goliath, this can be easy picking for you. Most large and successful websites focus on Google to the extent that they stop caring about other search engines. You can boost your traffic by getting traffic from smaller search engines. For example, a backlink for wordpress.com website might be deemed more valuable by Bing search engine than by Google.
5. (Don’t) Submit your URLs to web directories
Once upon a time submitting your webpages to web directories used to be part and parcel of every effective SEO strategy. Nowadays it’s suicidal to submit your URLs to any web directory. In fact, if your URLs appear in some of the bad web directories, Google may club you with spammy websites and severely hurt your rankings. In a nutshell, in the era of Google Penguin algorithm it makes no sense whatsoever to submit your URLs anywhere.
It must be pointed out here that there is exactly one place where you MUST submit your URLs. That ‘web directory’ is Google Webmasters. This is the reason why Don’t has be placed in parenthesis in the title above. Submitting your web pages to any other directory is most likely going to do more harm than good to your business.
Backlinks are an important piece in SEO. In this article I have tried to highlight the most basic essential elements of backlink management. Managing backlinks properly is the key distinguishing factor between a thriving and failing online venture. Failure to adhere to the principles is likely to be catastrophic to websites. Hopefully the ways of generating quality backlinks described here will help your online venture get more organic traffic.
It is true that practically all websites should do SEO, but it is also true that it has some disadvantages that are noticeable in the short term, and not everyone can wait. Next we will see some of the key points that a SEM campaign offers to get more benefit from our company:
Advantages of doing a SEM campaign
1.- The first and most notable advantage offered by a SEM campaign is that it is instantaneous. From the moment you pay, your website will be in the top positions until you run out of the budget that you have spent on the payments per click of your keywords.
2.- The second advantage is obviously the position you occupy in Google while you are doing the SEM campaign. It is much easier to buy yourself being in first position, to buy your competition, being them on the second page.
3.- Possibility to segment the market. What does this mean? It’s very simple. At the moment I open a SEM campaign, I must know what my target audience is and contact them, as the money spent on the campaign will only be on a potential client. (Remember that the money that is invested in a campaign is only consumed when the ad is clicked).
4.- Possibility that the potential client reaches the page you want. You choose where you want to direct traffic.
5.- As many keywords as we want. It is convenient that the keywords are studied and we know that we are really offering the product that the people who put those keywords are looking for.
6.- It is possible to estimate the results before starting the SEM campaign. Depending on the investment we make in the campaign itself we can know more or less the clicks and the reach they have.
7.- One of the things that I would like to highlight, is that even if your website is outdated, it does not matter, since while you pay Google, he will be positioning you.
8.- We are the one who created the ad, and we can give free rein to our creativity, to attract more customers to our website.
As a conclusion, and also a brief advice, is that if you are going to carry out an SEM campaign, do it with a professional, since it is true that it has many advantages, but if you do not do it well, you can be throwing your money away, and in this sector in the end the cheap, it is expensive.
Do you have time and want to end up saving? SEO
Do you want results already? Do not you mind making an investment from the start? SEM.
I hope you liked the article, and especially that it has helped you to make a good decision.
On-Page SEO (nowadays referred to as simply onpage SEO) is set of recommended steps that content producers can undertake ON their web pages to improve their search rankings.
In the rapidly evolving world of SEO, on-page SEO is becoming increasingly important. A successful online venture needs to have a mix of both on-page and off-page SEO. This article examines the on-page SEO techniques in greater detail.
What’s the Purpose of On-Page SEO?
On-Page SEO recommends changes to the structure, content and meta-content of a post such that it appears favorable to the search engines in context of a keyword search.
Note that on-page seo is about making your page or post the favored destination for a particular keyword. The single biggest purpose of On-Page SEO is improving search rankings of a particular web page in context for a keyword search.
Understandably, on-page SEO encompasses (not necessarily in order) –
Producing quality content that help readers
Managing headings (sometimes called h-tags)
Dealing with keyword-density
Managing internal and outbound links
Optimizing images and other multimedia content
Providing meta tags and meta description
Managing social media
Note that creating quality content is the most important, non-negotiable factor.
Let’s get started and analyze them one by one, starting with the most important one.
1. Produce Quality Content
Everybody has heard so much about quality content that it’s become a joke. Nevertheless, content is THE king. There is no substitute for quality content. If you are not able to produce quality content, there is little hope.
Let’s take a quick look at what quality content is and how does one go about creating high quality content.
What is high quality content?
High-quality content is one which is
Relevant & focused
Sufficiently long to be informative
Accessible on all modern day platforms
Using multimedia for illustrations
Not displaying too many ads or affiliate promotions
How to produce high quality content?
Producing high quality content is a prerequisite for a successful online venture. Make sure that all your content adheres to guidelines describe here.
Make the content unique
Either the idea or at the very least the presentation is not found elsewhere. The search engines have become so smart (though not perfect) at detecting and penalizing duplicate content that copy pasting stuff nowadays is considered passport to oblivion. Copying content rather than saving your time will destroy your reputation beyond repair and will cost you the entire venture. Golden rule – Never copy content. Also, never let others copy your content.
Make the content relevant and focused
Your content should be related to a topic which normal people care about. “How to stay fit” would be a nice example. A counterexample would be “How to make aliens do your homework”. Similarly, your content should be focused on a single broad relevant topic which should be your keywords as well. Make the page hyper-focused on a single topic. Nobody likes ramblings and adding fluff to meet content length guidelines will do more harm than good.
Content must be sufficiently long to be informative
Content should be at least 700-800 words in length. Though there are no hard limits and length will mostly depend on the nature of your topic and the amount of information already available in public domain, writing content which is less than 300 words is pretty bad and qualifies as ‘thin content’.
Content must be accessible on all modern day platforms
Make sure that your content is aesthetically pleasing or at the very least is readable on major hardware platforms. This is where theme design and responsive design come into play. Making a website that is not rendered properly
Content should use multimedia for illustrations
They say a picture is worth thousand words and a video is worth hundred thousand. Search engines, especially Google, seems to have taken this a bit too seriously. Add images and video where you can. It dramatically increases your rankings.
Page should not display too many ads or affiliate promotions
Nobody but the spammers like spam. Your content must be informative enough to help your audience. Focusing on advertisements/links above content is the single most-frequent reason behind experts failing to produce successful websites.
Most Important point regarding your content
Before you start your online venture or commit yourself fully, make sure that you fully understand and appreciate the following facts of business life on internet –
You cannot get away by copying content
You cannot succeed with thin content
Your content must solve some real life problem of some people
You need to produce content frequently and regularly
Internet ventures are zero sum. Being on page-3 of Google is as bad as being out-of-business. Only the first page counts.
You need to use Social media as an
alternative organic traffic source
indicator to the search engines about quality & ‘heat’ of your content
2. Manage Your URL structure
URL is the address to your web page. Therefore, you have to structure it such that not only search engines but readers too find it attractive.
Tips to manage your URL
Here are a few tips to structure your URLs for SEO. Make sure that your URL –
Contains 3 to 5 words in addition to the domain name
Contains targeted keywords
Does not contain any stopwords
Never ever use underscore as word separator. Hyphen (minus) is the only acceptable separator.
Your URLs should neither be too long nor too short. They should contain 3 to 5 keywords that you are targeting. You can ignore stopwords such as the, an, in, on to the extent that they don’t make your URLs ridiculous. The stopwords don’t harm your rankings but they occupy precious real estate, space that should be taken by target keywords.Search engines prefer URLs that are not made unduly long by stopwords. On the other hand, humans need stopwords to make sense of phrases. Therefore, strike a balance.
For example, if you are writing a programming blog post on using Linked List as Stack you should prefer
Not only is the first URL more reader-friendly, but by same virtue is more SEO tuned.
Since it is so very obvious, I don’t elaborate on the fact that the following structure is a big NO NO –
3. Manage Your Page Title & Blog Post Title
The title of your page is one of the most important, if not the most important, levers available to you for on-page seo.
There are two different titles being talked about here. So, let’s ensure that you understand the difference between the two –
Page Title – the title of browser window when a visitor opens your web page. This is part of HTML head and is written inside <title> tags.
Blog Post Title – the headline at the beginning of the web page informing the visitor about the content on that page. This is part of HTML body and is primarily aimed at humans. This should be written in <h1> tags and ideally should be the only h1 tag in your blog post.
Tips to manage your titles
Here are a few tips to structure your page titles for SEO. Make sure that your page title and post title –
Starts with (or at least contains) the targeted keywords
Is embedded in proper tags (<H1> tags for blog post title and <title> for page title)
Is neither too long nor too short. Should fit easily on the screen and should never contain more than 65 characters
Contains enough ‘extra’ words that long tail keywords are captured
Has a timestamp if the content is updated frequently
Your page title and post title are the only two places where keyword cramming is not only allowed but recommended. These titles are your chance to inform your readers and search bots what you are going to talk about. A page title is enclosed in title tags. A blog post title must be in h1 or h2 tags. Similarly, make sure that you capture the long tail versions of the keywords by appending them to the title. For example, if you are writing a blog on politics, you are better off saying
Donald Trump Likely to Win Presidential Elections 2020
Trump Hot Favorite for 2020
Likewise, if you have dynamic content update your page and post title to contain timestamp. For example, if you have a coupons website where you post discount coupons daily, it is massively more beneficial to say
Ebay coupons on Sept. 11, 2001
Ebay coupons today
4. Manage Your Meta Descriptions
Meta descriptions are author supplied summary of the article. A meta description goes in the head section of HTML and follows this format –
<metaname="description" content="A SENTENCE OF 156 CHARS CONTAINING KEYWORDS" >
The primary purpose of meta description from end user perspective is that it provides a brief summary of your article in search results. Readers peruse this meta description sentence to decide whether they want to visit a particular page or not.
Apart from providing a brief summary to potential visitors, a meta description is also used by search engines to figure out what your article is about.
If you don’t provide a meta-description, search engines provide one for you by using first few words of your article. This is less than optimal because
All your keywords may not appear in the search results
Your meta-description may not be coherent and it may contain incomplete sentence toward the end.
Important points to remember about meta description
Always provide meta description for your post. The default is generally sub-optimal and might actually harm your rankings
Make sure that meta description is a meaningful sentence and conveys the value your article provides to human readers succintly.
Meta description should be less than 156 characters in length. Characters after this limit are truncated and apart from leaving the readers in a lurch show author’s incompetence.
NEVER EVER copy a meta description. Copying meta description is worse than not providing one. It is the easiest and surest way of telling search engines “Hey Dear, I copied content from somewhere else. Come, penalize me.”
5. Manage Your Meta Tags & Meta Title
Apart from meta description, there are other meta tags that are not as important and are gradually losing their sheen. If at all you want to skip one on-page technique, it has to be this one as it is least important.
You can provide a list of keywords relevant to your article using the meta keywords tag shown below
<metaname="keywords" content="kword1, kword2, ... more crap :-)>
Rampant misuse and abuse of these tags has left them almost worthless, nevertheless if you want to extract even the last drop of juice from your hard work, you can provide meaningful meta keywords and meta title.
Here are a couple of noteworthy points about meta tags
Meta title should be less than 70 characters
Meta keywords are ignored by most modern day search engines. There is little sense in investing too much effort in meta tags.
6. Use Multimedia Effectively
Interspersing text with images and videos breaks monotony and helps your readers grasp information faster. Search engines recognize this and award pages with more multimedia content a higher rating.
Important points to remember regarding on-page multimedia usage
Multimedia content makes a website more engaging. Sprinkle liberal doses of multimedia in your content. Multimedia content increases your ‘dwell time’ on your website.
Use image description, image title and alt description to stuff them with your website name and targeted keywords. This can drive image search traffic to your website and associate your website with targeted keywords in the ‘mind’ of search engines.
To the maximum extent possible provide an image capturing gist of your entire on-page content. Multimedia creation is costly and is therefore a double edged sword. Using multimedia content increases the cost of content production but at the same time has the potential of fetching much better returns.
Loading and rendering of multimedia content increases your page load time. Too many images increases your page load time and search engines, like humans, don’t like pages that take an eternity to load.
Strike a balance between the kind of hosting provider you are using and the number of images + videos you have on-page. Pro-tip: Google’s Blogspot and Automattic’s WordPress.com platforms have an excellent page load time and are free. If you are planning low-cost multimedia centric online ventures, these are your best bets while starting
7. Use Internal & External Links
Backlinks are an important cornerstone of any modern day SEO strategy. Counterpart of backlinks is linking your content with other content on web. Content that is linked with other content on internet is perceived more valuable in the eyes of search engines. Therfore, link your content to other internal content and with content of ONLY reputed websites (such as StackOverflow.com, Quora.com, Wikipedia).
While linking your content, keep in mind that –
First try to link important keywords with already existing content on your website. This reduces the bounce rate and increases the time users are likely to spend on your website. Both these factors are quite important in deciding the ranking of your page.
If you are describing a complicated, uncommon term which is not yet present your website you can provide an external link to help your audience understand the term better. As described previously in the informative article on backlinks (and this is also an example of backlink), when you link to an external website you may end up passing ‘link juice’. You can and MUST prevent this by using no-follow tag.
ALWAYS use target=”_blank” in your link’s HTML code. This opens the linked page in a new tab. If you let the users open the linked content in same window where they are viewing your webpage, it is quite unlikely that they will come back to your page.
8. Provide social media buttons
All your posts must have social media sharing buttons. Include most popular social media in your strategy – Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Reddit, Pinterest to name a few.
The social media buttons induce certain percentage of users to share your content in their social circle. This gives you valuable organic traffic. Furthermore, the group in which your content gets shared is most likely the target segment of population that you wanted your content to reach to. Since your content reaches targeted audience you can get higher rankings because of increased user engagement, higher dwell time, lower bounce rate.
Conclusion (On-Page SEO checklist)
This article started with defining on-page seo and described important techniques that ensure that your content will give maximum bang for your buck.
In conclusion, let’s summarize important points in On-Page SEO in these 15 points –
Produce high quality content (for definition and how to create high quality content, see point #1)
Ensure that your URL contains keywords and is of optimum length
Make sure that post title is a H1 tag
Page title and post title must contain targeted keywords
Meta description must be provided and it must contain less than 155 characters and must make use of targeted keywords
Don’t stuff or cram keywords in your content. A keyword density of 1.5% is desirable.
Avoid stop words in URL, they increase the length but don’t add much value
The most important keywords must appear in H2 and H3 tags as well
Make liberal use of multimedia content. But don’t go overboard to the point your page becomes slow.
Use free blogging platforms such as Blogspot.com (Blogger) and WordPress.com if you cannot afford powerful hosting
Your content must ideally be 700 to 800 words long
Create internal and external links to make your content more attractive
Time spent on a website (dwell time) and bounce rate (number of users returning after viewing your first page) are important drivers in search engine rankings
Use social media buttons on every post to allow users to share content. A highly shared (even if not viral) content automatically gets more importance by search engines.
Be present on social media, especially the medium that makes most sense to your niche.
